VITA SERVICE AT SUU IMPACTS COMMUNITY IN A BIG WAY

February 1, 2017 Cedar City, Utah

Throughout the end of Winter and beginning of Spring many Cedar City community members flock to the campus of SUU.  Sporting events? Shakespeare festival? Actually it is because of tax season and the many volunteers who offer free tax services on campus.  Brady Measom is one of the volunteers there who offers his time and knowledge to help the community members.

Brady Measom is a senior accounting student at SUU.  He and his fellow students volunteer their weeknights to perform tax returns.  Every week night from 5 pm until 9 pm a number of SUU students gather in the business building to serve the community.  Brady has logged over 40 hours this tax season completing tax returns for dozens of community members.

Why would they do this you might wonder?  For many of the students it is part of their beginning income tax class at SUU.  It also is a way to gain experience in the tax field.  It looks good when employers see such experience on a resume as well.  For Brady, it is part of all of these things, as well as for his EDGE (Education Designated to Give Experience) project.  These projects are done by SUU students to serve, lead, and gain experience in the community.  Brady chose to lead community members through their tax returns because it was a project that was both beneficial to the community and himself.
