VITA: Leadership in the Community Through Volunteering
What to expect at VITA
When you first show up you will be put on a waiting list while you fill out a tax form. Depending on what time you show up and how many people are there, it could take anywhere from 5 to 45 minutes to get seated with a volunteer. Once you are seated the student volunteer will go over your forms and ask you some questions. The tax return could take anywhere from twenty minutes to two hours depending on how complex your return is. Once all the forms are input into the system and all the questions have been covered then the volunteer will tell you exactly how much you will get for your return and how long until you will get it. There are a few different options for getting your return. One is to get it mailed to your home address, which takes longer, usually 6-8 weeks. The second option is to get it direct deposited into your bank account. This option is much faster and usually takes about 2-3 weeks.
